Why will Crackstone not break?

Crackstone is a progression barrier rather than ordinary terrain. The supplied official-wiki notes state that the Shovel and Gun cannot destroy it. If either tool appears to do nothing, stop wasting ammunition or time and continue the technology route instead.

Prepare the area before opening it

Clear loose sand, water, and factory parts around the intended breach. A newly opened area can release material into an existing belt or drop path, creating an avoidable jam. Leave a controlled collection space below the opening if gravity will carry resources into your base.
